Meet Dr. Laura (Kohake) Meier

We are excited to announce that Dr. Laura (Kohake) Meier will begin working with the Apogee team November 1, 2021! She brings a wealth of knowledge due to her vast array of experiences in private practice and diagnostic medicine. This, coupled with her hard work ethic and dedication to her clients, make her a great asset to our team. We are looking forward to working together to strive to reach the "apogee" of animal health and customer service. Read on to learn a little more about Dr. Laura.

Dr. Laura grew up on a 180 cow dairy farm south of Seneca, KS. She attended Kansas State University for both her undergraduate and graduate studies. During her time at K-State she worked at the Large Animal Research Center and for Dr. Hans Coetzee where she assisted with pain management research in cattle. Upon graduation with her DVM in 2015 she moved to Southwest Kansas to work as an associate in a two doctor, mixed animal practice. Wanting to get closer to home and family, she moved to Washington, KS in October of 2016. Here she met her husband, Micah, on an evening emergency farm call turned C-Section. After marriage, they worked together on his family’s 800 cow robotic dairy near Palmer, KS.

In 2020, Dr. Laura decided that she wasn’t quite done with research yet and decided to go back to K-State where she worked as a microbiologist in the Veterinary Diagnostic Lab. Her role there was to help veterinarians and clients make wise antibiotic selections by determining which bacteria were the causative agents of diseases and which antibiotics these bacteria were susceptible to. It was at this time that she and Micah moved back to Seneca to start and raise their family. They adopted a French Bulldog puppy named Calvin in 2020, and then, welcomed Casen into their family in July, 2021.

Laura’s primary passion is dairy cattle, but she loves working with all animals. Over the years she has been blessed with the experiences of working with small family dairies, large 4000-cow commercial dairies, robotic dairies, automatic calf-feeders, and everything in-between. During her spare time, she loves spending time with her family, playing fetch with Calvin, painting crafts, and helping her family on the farm. She is excited to get to know and work with the clients of Apogee Animal Health, Inc.!
